HEARTS OF SERVANTS RICHARDSON - HOSR

Thank you for your interest in Hearts of Servants Richardson (HOSR).  We are a local service organization started by Richardson area moms interested in helping our sons and daughters understand the importance of giving back and how rewarding volunteer work can be.  HOSR is for high school-age young men and women who attend J. J. Pearce or Richardson High School, or who live in the JJP or RHS attendance zone and attend local private schools.

MEMBERS AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING EXPECTATIONS:

  • Fees:  Our yearly dues are $30.00 per member for the school year, and dues cover maintenance of the website, ads in school programs, items needed for our group philanthropy project meetings, etc.  This is annual commitment, and membership must be renewed each year.

  • Service Hours:

    1. Student Members will serve a minimum of 15 hours of service per year (June 1st - May 31st).  10 of these hours MUST be earned through volunteering your time.  In addition to volunteering in person, you can earn service hours in the following ways:

      • spending $20 in donations will earn one hour for a maximum of FIVE (5) hours

      • driving time that is more than 20 miles one way to a volunteer opportunity can count for service time; just add the total amount of driving time both ways together to determine the credit.
    2. Although we encourage parents to volunteer with their students, parents are not required to earn service hours.
    3. All hours must be through HOSR philanthropies.
    4. There are two meetings/social events each year, and these events usually include a philanthropic  activity in which students will earn an hour of service time.

    5. All hours should be reported after an event by each member on Membership Toolkit here. You should also keep records of your hours.

    6. While only the students are responsible for earning hours, no money will be handled during the time of service if an adult is not present.

    7. If at the end of the year, the 15-hour requirement has not been fulfilled and you wish to continue with HOSR the following year (which we hope is the case), you will be placed on probation.  This means you need to complete your missing hours by the first day of the new school year. If you are not able to complete these hours by the first day of school, you will not qualify for participation in HOSR.

  • Leadership:  As with any board of an organization, we have many leadership roles we need our sponsors to fill, and we are open to allowing our students to serve in leadership roles themselves as liaisons to our philanthropies.  If you and/or your student would like to be more involved, please let us know so we can find a role that best fits your strengths.

  • Philanthropies:

    1. Signup alerts will be sent via email and will be on a first come first serve basis. We encourage you to sign up early.

    2. If you agree to volunteer for an event and you have a conflict, we ask that you find a sub if it’s within one week of the event. Everyone will have access to the HOSR roster to make last-minute arrangements. Be sure to verify if your event is listed as "girl's only" or "boy's only" when looking for a sub.

    3. We welcome service opportunities. If you have a new philanthropy idea that you would like to lead, please contact the Philanthropy Chair(s)

  • Housekeeping:

    1. When it is determined that money spent is reimbursable members will fill out the reimbursement form (found on the website) and send the form with receipts to the Treasurer.

    2. Member is encouraged to wear their HOSR shirt to all events. This is good publicity plus makes it easy for us to identify each other.
